Computer Awareness – 50 MCQ Online Test (My Study Experience)
So, I recently started preparing Computer Awareness for exams like SSC, Banking, and other govt exams… and I’ll be honest, I thought this section would be super easy 😅
Like, we use computers daily, right? Phone, apps, internet… so what’s there to study?
But when I tried MCQs, I got confused between terms like RAM, ROM, input-output devices… then I realized — using a computer and understanding it are two different things.
So here I’m sharing how I actually prepared this section. Simple, practical, and like I’d explain to a friend.
Why Computer Awareness is Important
At first, I ignored this topic thinking it’s small.
But later I noticed:
- Questions are easy
- Less time required
- High scoring section
So now I give proper attention to it.
1. Basics of Computer
When I first studied this, I got confused between hardware and software.
Then I made a simple trick:
- Hardware → things you can touch
- Software → programs you can’t touch
Simple, right?
Examples:
- Keyboard, mouse → Hardware
- Windows, apps → Software
One relatable example:
Think of computer like human body.
- Body → Hardware
- Brain/thoughts → Software
This helped me remember easily.
2. Input & Output Devices
This part is very common in exams.
Input devices (give data to computer):
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Scanner
Output devices (show result):
- Monitor
- Printer
- Speaker
My trick:
Input → “enter”
Output → “show”
3. Memory (RAM & ROM)
This topic confused me a lot earlier.
Simple understanding:
- RAM → temporary memory
- ROM → permanent memory
My trick:
RAM = Running (temporary work)
ROM = Read Only (fixed)
Example:
If you open an app → RAM is used
If system has built-in data → ROM
4. Basic Terms
These are small but important for MCQs.
- CPU → brain of computer
- ALU → does calculations
- CU → controls operations
My way:
I don’t go deep. Just basic idea is enough for exam.
5. Internet Basics
This part is easy and scoring.
Important terms:
- WWW → World Wide Web
- Browser → Chrome, Edge
- Email → sending messages
One relatable example:
We use browser daily but never think what it actually is.
So in exam, simple questions come from this.
How I Practice MCQs
Earlier I was just reading notes.
But I kept forgetting.
Then I started this:
- Study topic
- Solve 20–30 MCQs
- Check answers
- Revise
Now I feel more confident.
Sample MCQs
Here are some basic ones I practiced:
1. CPU stands for?
Answer: Central Processing Unit
2. Which is input device?
Answer: Keyboard
3. RAM is?
Answer: Temporary memory
4. ROM is?
Answer: Permanent memory
5. Which is output device?
Answer: Monitor
6. WWW stands for?
Answer: World Wide Web
7. Brain of computer?
Answer: CPU
Mistakes I Made
1. Ignoring small topics
But questions come from basics.
2. Confusing terms
Like RAM & ROM
3. No revision
So I forgot easily.
One Small Insight
Computer Awareness is not difficult.
But questions are tricky.
So clarity is important.
My Personal Tips
1. Focus on basics
Don’t go too deep.
2. Practice MCQs
Very important.
3. Revise regularly
Otherwise you forget.
Final Thoughts
This section is easy scoring.
You just need:
- Basic understanding
- Regular practice
Even 30–40 minutes daily is enough.
